Event Description:
Currently, nearly 20 states across the country ban transgender students from participating in sports that are consistent with their identity. Additionally, other states -- including Ohio -- have consistently introduced legislation in an effort to pass such a ban.
In recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a panel of experts will discuss the importance of trans femme inclusion in sports, while also sharing insights on how anti-trans legislation actively harms women’s sports. And finally, this panel of experts will also offer tips for sports fans, athletes, coaches, legislators, and community members to better support trans femme inclusion in athletic spaces.
Featured panelists include:
- Rhea Debussy, Ph.D. (she/her), Director of External Affairs for Equitas Health and former Facilitator for the NCAA’s LGBTQ OneTeam Program
- Gio Santiago (he/him), Senior Field Organizer for Athlete Ally and Founder of META Center, Inc.; and
- Shauna Adkison (she/her), Event Coordinator for Plexus LGBT and Allied Chamber of Commerce and Member of Stonewall Sports Cleveland.
The event will be moderated by Institute Lead Trainer Ramona Peel (she/her). Registration before the event is required for attendance, via the following link:
