Name: Contemporary Artists Lecture Series: Zanele Muholi - Lesbian Artist & Activist
Date: February 6, 2016
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM EST
Event Description:

Artist and visual activist Zanele Muholi records the lives of black lesbian women in South Africa through photography, installation, and video, seeking to illuminate the contradictions of life in a country that recognizes the legality of same-sex marriages but is plagued by hate crimes and intolerance for LGBTI individuals. In photographic series such as Faces and Phases and Weddings, and the video Being Scene, Muholi brings into focus the love, intimacy, and daily life within these close-knit yet vulnerable communities. Join the artist in her first Cleveland appearance for a discussion of her work and career.
