Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatrist (MD) to join B Riley Sober House team. We are a Therapeutic Community based Treatment facility that assists LGBTQ+ and allies to overcome substance use disorder. We are a substance free workplace; hence the applicant must pass a drug screen, fingerprinting and background check. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing and managing psychotropic medications, and providing therapeutic interventions. The psychiatrist will work within an interdisciplinary team of clinicians to provide holistic and individualized care to clients, with a focus on supporting recovery and improving mental health outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following and /or other duties that may be assigned
Key Responsibilities:
- Psychiatric Evaluation & Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess the mental health needs of patients with substance use disorders.
- Diagnose psychiatric conditions, including co-occurring mental health disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, etc.).
- Provide differential diagnoses and develop appropriate treatment plans based on findings.
- Provide culturally competent therapeutic interventions directed towards LGBTQ+ clients
- Medication Management
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including those for addiction treatment (e.g., methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone).
- Monitor medication efficacy, side effects, and interactions, adjusting treatment protocols as needed.
- Work closely with other medical providers (e.g., addiction specialists, primary care providers) to ensure comprehensive care.
- Treatment Planning & Coordination
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (therapists, counselors, nurses, and social workers) to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of treatment progress, adjusting care plans as necessary.
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment goals.
- Psychotherapy & Therapeutic Interventions
- Offer brief psychotherapy or therapeutic interventions as needed, particularly focusing on patients with co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
- Utilize evidence-based practices (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing) to support recovery and mental health stabilization.
- Provide culturally competent therapeutic interventions directed towards LGBTQ+ clients
- Patient Education & Support
- Educate patients about their psychiatric conditions, treatment options, and the impact of substance use on mental health.
- Provide guidance and support to patients in understanding the role of medication in their recovery process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring all documentation complies with regulatory and ethical standards.
- Complete clinical assessments, progress notes, and treatment updates in a timely manner.
- Crisis Intervention & Safety
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation, psychosis, and severe mental health crises.
- Ensure patient safety through appropriate crisis management interventions and risk assessments.
- Collaboration with External Providers
- Collaborate with external specialists, including addiction counselors, therapists, and community resources, to ensure continuity of care and holistic treatment approaches.
- Assist with patient referrals to inpatient or outpatient services as needed for more intensive treatment.
- Research & Quality Improvement
- Stay informed of the latest research in substance use treatment, psychiatric care, and mental health best practices.
- Contribute to facility-wide initiatives aimed at improving care quality and patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education:- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of a residency in Psychiatry.
Licensing/Certification:- Board certification in Psychiatry (or board-eligible) preferred.
- State licensure to practice medicine in Ohio.
- DEA certification for prescribing controlled substance
Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in psychiatric practice, preferably in a substance use disorder treatment setting.
- Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders is highly preferred.
